How to tackle Low Blood Pressure?

This blog explains what is low blood pressure, its symptoms, preventions and natural ways to raise it when encountered.


Low blood pressure is caused when the pressure with which the heart is pumping blood through the arteries is less than systolic (contraction) pressure of 80 mm Hg and Diastolic (relaxation) pressure of 60 mm Hg.


Symptoms of Low BP:

  • Dizziness

  • Sleepiness

  • Blurry vision

  • Fainting

  • Nausea or Vomiting

  • Weakness

  • Lightheadedness

  • Confusion


Prevention for Low BP:

  • Drinking more fluids

  • Eat more salt

  • Raise the head when sleeping

  • Lower shower temperature

  • Practicing lower body exercises

  • Cross legs while sitting

  • Getting up slowly after sitting or lying down

  • Stay hydrated

  • Not drinking alcohol

  • Not standing for a long time

  • Sitting cross-legged

  • Using compression stockings so blood does not collect in the legs


When to contact a medical professional:

  • Chest pain

  • Dizziness, Lightheadedness

  • Fainting

  • Fever higher than 101F / 38.3 degree C

  • Irregular heartbeat

  • Shortness of breath
