Effects of Puberty on Brain

Puberty leads to fascinating changes in your brain in fact puberty begins in the brain

It is triggered when a region known as the hypothalamus releases waves of specialized hormones, it is a seemingly slow process and lasts for about 4 to 5 years.

Estrogen and Testosterone are 2 hormones released by the reproductive organs of females and males respectively which signals the brain through the bloodstream into initiating puberty.

Once these hormones reach the brain they interact with the receptors on neurons which changes the way individual cell functions by making them more or less excitable, altering their growth, or reshaping their connections.

In other words, this can change the way you think, feel and behave.

For example, hormones remodel and develop the limbic system responsible for an individual's emotional behavior, which is the prime reason teenagers start to behave differently during puberty.

There is a reassembling of neurons or the dopamine hub.

Teenagers are often considered to be very impulsive or rude and due to this reason they are often expected to make wrong decisions but this is not the case. Many studies have proved that teenagers can actually make very logical (correct decisions) when not under stress.

Brain surely controls a lot of puberty growth but in the end, it comes to the person on what they want to be. Puberty can have a effect on an individual's body but the way they react and how well they command their emotions and decisions is what actually shapes their personality.
